Programs


MAHS strives to make Manchester area history interesting, useful and meaningful to the citizens of today. Please join us for one of our regular monthly meetings, held September through June, the second Thursday of the month, 7:30p, at the Village Room, Manchester Village Hall.

Our meetings are informal and include presentations on a wide variety of interesting topics representing a mix of local, state and national themes. Everyone is welcome, and attending a meeting is an excellent way to get started on your own journey into history!

Annual Meeting & Election of Officers

September 11, 2014 is the Annual Meeting and election of officers. The meeting will be at 7:30 PM at the Blacksmith Shop. Instead of a program for the September 11 meeting, there will be an open discussion of the need for more space to maintain the MAHS as a viable organization and how to obtain the space.

Annual Show & Tell

The annual MAHS Show & Tell. Bring in an old artifact to display and tell about its history or how you acquired it. Do you have something, but don’t know what it is or what
it does? Bring it to the Show & Tell and maybe someone in attendance can give you the answer!

2013 Carol Sing and Cookie Exchange

The annual Christmas Carol sing and Cookie Exchange will be at our new regular meeting place, the Sharon United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. As in the past, everyone is to bring some cookies for snacks during the event and enough extra cookies for participants to take a selection of cookies home. We’ll again have the traditional
collection basket on the cookie table for donations to Manchester Family Services.

MAHS member Doug Howell will provide piano accompaniment for the carols so have your singing voice ready. Do you have friends who like cookies and singing carols but are not MAHS members? Bring them along. Everyone is welcome at our meetings and the more in attendance, the merrier the event. Punch, paper plates and napkins will be provided for the snacks as well as paper plates and plastic wrap for cookies going home after the carol sing.

Show and Tell

A Show and Tell meeting at the Village Room at the Village Hall at our regular starting time of 7:30 PM.

So search around to find something interesting to bring to show to the other attendees and tell them about it. If you have something and you are not sure of its identity or use, you might bring it and maybe another attendee can provide information about it.

The MAHS Collection: Processing and Cataloging Artifacts

We shall meet at the Blacksmith Shop at 7:30 PM for an orientation and explanation of the MAHS process to catalog MAHS artifacts. This informational meeting anticipates a work session at the Blacksmith Shop at the 14 March, 2013 General Membership meeting, at which, we plan to catalog and organize more of the MAHS artifacts.

We shall also initiate discussion and planning regarding the question raised last year, "Where is the MAHS going?" and along with that query, "How does it get there?"

Blacksmith Shop Jazz To Benefit Manchester Youth

Cultural Art Strings invites you to an evening of jazz with Chelsea Center for the Arts jazz faculty. $15 donation at door. For reserved seats, call (734) 223-6876. Proceeds benefit Manchester Cultural Art Strings Youth Scholarship Fund.

Cookies and Carols

The next Manchester Area Historical Society (MAHS) meeting will be the annual Cookie Exchange and Christmas Carol Sing. The meeting, commonly called Cookies & Carols, will be at the Sharon United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Thursday, December 13th, starting at 7:30 PM.

Like all other MAHS meetings, Cookies & Carols is open to non-members as well as members of the MAHS. Attendees should bring sufficient cookies for snacking and sharing during the exchange part of the meeting. Luther Schaible will provide the music for the carols so bring your fine singing voice and expect a fun time. Some plates and plastic wrap or some plastic bags will be available so attendees can take some cookies home and, as in the past, we'll collect financial donations for Manchester Family Services. Punch and coffee will be provided.
