Programs


MAHS strives to make Manchester area history interesting, useful and meaningful to the citizens of today. Please join us for one of our regular monthly meetings, held September through June, the second Thursday of the month, 7:30p, at the Village Room, Manchester Village Hall.

Our meetings are informal and include presentations on a wide variety of interesting topics representing a mix of local, state and national themes. Everyone is welcome, and attending a meeting is an excellent way to get started on your own journey into history!

January Meeting "Bethel United Church of Christ History"

Bethel Church history will be presented by Mary Sue Moore and Susan Layher. Public is always invited and refreshments will be served. No charges. Manchester Village Hall, 912 City Rd.

Cookie exchange and Carol sing

December is our annual Cookie Exchange and Carol Sing meeting. Public is invited to join us for singing and eating cookies. Bring enough cookies to pass and trade. Remaining cookies are available to take home for a free-will donation and all money collected is given to Manchester Family Services. This meeting will be at the Sharon United Methodist Church fellowship hall, located at the corner of M-52 and Pleasant Lake Rd.

NOVEMBER meeting "SHOW AND TELL"

NOVEMBER 11 meeting. This month is our annual "SHOW AND TELL" program. Members and the public are invited to bring in items to show and/or discuss. They can be your old favorite or newly aquired antiques or collectables. Anything you want to share information on is fine. Some surprising items have been shown in past meetings. Refreshments following the meeting.

OCTOBER meeting

OCTOBER 14th meeting. Bob and Sandy Mottice will host this meeting in their newly restored log cabin. they will talk about the restoration process. Public is invited and refreshments will be served. 20830 Pleasant Lake Road, Manchester, MI.

MAY MEETING "History of Ham Radio and Amateur Emergency Communications"

Chelsea Amateur Radio Club will present the program. Jeff Cowall will be the primary presenter and Karl Racenis will assist. Public is always invited and there is no charge. Light refreshments to follow. Manchester Village Hall, Lower Level, Use back parking lot.

APRIL MEETING "Memories of Two Young Children during WWII in England"

Local residents and Society members Ed & Rosemary Whelan will tell their story of being children in England during WWII. Light snacks will follow the program. Public is always invited. No charge. Manchester Village Hall, Lower level, use back parking lot.

MARCH MEETING "Early Maps of Manchester Village - What Do They Tell Us?"

Ray Berg, local historian and member of our Society will share some of his discoveries with us. Ray is always informative and very interesting. Meeting will be at the Manchester Village Hall, 912 City Rd., Lower level, use rear parking lot. Light refreshments to follow. Public is invited and there is no charge.

February Meeting--INVASION OF NORMANDY 2009 Anniversary

Invasion of Normandy 2009 was attended by longtime member Betty Cummings. She will discuss her trip and share highlights of the event with us. Manchester Village Hall, 912 City Rd., Manchester, Michigan 48158. Public is invited to attend. Light refreshments following. Never a charge.

January meeting-Victory Baptist Church history

Pastor Fred Slagle of Victory Baptist Church in Manchester will give the history of his church and the early Baptists in Michigan. Public is invited to come and join us at the Manchester Village Hall, 912 City Rd., Manchester. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

DECEMBER MEETING--Annual Cookie Exchange and Christmas Carole Sing

This meeting is always a lot of fun. Everyone is invited to participate. Bring enough cookies to share during the singing and some for selling before we leave. Cookies remaining at the end of the evening are sold by free will donation and all the money is given to Manchester Family Services. We will meet in the new Fellowship Hall at Sharon United Methodist Church. The Hall is the new building behind the church at M-52 and Pleasant Lake Rd. Luther Schaible is providing the musical accompanyment.
