MAHS strives to make Manchester area history interesting, useful and meaningful to the citizens of today. Please join us for one of our regular monthly meetings, held September through June, the second Thursday of the month, 7:30p, at the Village Room, Manchester Village Hall.

Our meetings are informal and include presentations on a wide variety of interesting topics representing a mix of local, state and national themes. Everyone is welcome, and attending a meeting is an excellent way to get started on your own journey into history!

Annual "Show and Tell" meeting

Once a year we have a meeting where members and visitors are invited to bring in their favorite items. Antiques, collectables, Historic, or anything unusual qualifies. These can be for display and sharing your knowledge or things you are seeking information on. The public is invited and everyone is welcome to participate.

Outdoor Model Trains

Local resident Gerald Shaw will share his hobby with us. Gerald builds and collects garden scale model trains. Our meetings are open to the public and there is no charge.

Connections - The Links to Manchester's Early Development

Ray Berg, society member and local historian will talk about people and events that caused Manchester Village to be where it is. Public is invited and there is no charge.

April Program has been cancelled

Our April program is cancelled due to conflicts with Maundy Thursday church services on our usual second Thursday meeting night. Our calendar shows the meeting on the third Thursday, but an error was made in scheduling which prevents this. The Iditarod program will be rescheduled on a future date.

Local Area G.A.R. Posts

Don Limpert, a well known local resident, will present a program on G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) posts in our area. Lots of information on these Union Army veterans of the Civil War. Original documents and pictures will be displayed.


Members, Darrel & Betty Suhre are hosting our annual picnic this year. The theme will be weddings. Bring pictures or any other items you want to share. It will be fun seeing what people looked like on their day. This is a pot luck event so bring a dish to pass too.

Touring Historic Italy

Local residents Doug Howell and David Glaser will talk about their recent trip to Italy. Historic sites will be discussed and pictures displayed.

Heirloom Fruit Orchard and Grafting

Mike Dority, a Freedom Township resident will talk about his orchard, preserving old varieties, and grafting. Public is invited and there is no charge.

Antique Coins and Local Bank Notes

Barry Kenyon, area resident and coin collector, will present a program. He will discuss coinage and explain banknotes of the 1837 era. Manchester notes will be on display.

Raising Honey Bees

Sharon Township resident, Steve Day will talk about his hobby. He raises honey bees for fun and the honey.
