Programs


MAHS strives to make Manchester area history interesting, useful and meaningful to the citizens of today. Please join us for one of our regular monthly meetings, held September through June, the second Thursday of the month, 7:30p, at the Village Room, Manchester Village Hall.

Our meetings are informal and include presentations on a wide variety of interesting topics representing a mix of local, state and national themes. Everyone is welcome, and attending a meeting is an excellent way to get started on your own journey into history!

DECEMBER MEETING--Annual Cookie Exchange and Christmas Carole Sing

This meeting is always a lot of fun. Everyone is invited to participate. Bring enough cookies to share during the singing and some for selling before we leave. Cookies remaining at the end of the evening are sold by free will donation and all the money is given to Manchester Family Services. We will meet in the new Fellowship Hall at Sharon United Methodist Church. The Hall is the new building behind the church at M-52 and Pleasant Lake Rd. Luther Schaible is providing the musical accompanyment.

Annual "Show and Tell" meeting

Once a year we have a meeting where members and visitors are invited to bring in their favorite items. Antiques, collectables, Historic, or anything unusual qualifies. These can be for display and sharing your knowledge or things you are seeking information on. The public is invited and everyone is welcome to participate.

Outdoor Model Trains

Local resident Gerald Shaw will share his hobby with us. Gerald builds and collects garden scale model trains. Our meetings are open to the public and there is no charge.

Connections - The Links to Manchester's Early Development

Ray Berg, society member and local historian will talk about people and events that caused Manchester Village to be where it is. Public is invited and there is no charge.

April Program has been cancelled

Our April program is cancelled due to conflicts with Maundy Thursday church services on our usual second Thursday meeting night. Our calendar shows the meeting on the third Thursday, but an error was made in scheduling which prevents this. The Iditarod program will be rescheduled on a future date.

Annual Summer Picnic

Come help us celebrate summer! Pot luck dinner will be served. Come and bring a dish to pass. This will be our last regular meeting until September.

Tour of St. James United Church of Christ in Saline

St. James United Church of Christ, Saline, Michigan, will host the Manchester Area Historical Society meeting. They will conduct a tour of their historic church building and discuss it's history. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.

United Confederate Veterans

Don Limpert will discuss the United Confederate Veterans from 1890-1951. Original pieces will be on display.

Annual Show and Tell

Members and public are invited to bring items to display and/or discuss. Bring something you are seeking info on or something you want to brag on. Refreshments will be served. No charge.

Pottery - Old to New

David Nelson, a local pottery instructor, will talk about the art. Old to modern pieces will be on display.
